What is MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures)?

MTBF is the average operating time between one failure of a repairable asset and the next.

MTBF = total operating time ÷ number of failures over a period. A rising MTBF shows reliability improving; together with MTTR it describes how often assets fail and how quickly they recover.
